NATURE EXPLORERS

Nature Explorers camp is everything nature and adventure with opportunities to kayak, hike, craft, crab or fish, play, and discover the beauty of Greenwell.

  • Mid-week, campers will hike over to the Manor House area where they can choose to build forts with bamboo, explore the gardens, play field games like capture the flag, or simply enjoy the breeze from the river.
  • Free time will be allotted, allowing the campers to let their imagination and interests drive their play while in the outdoors.
  • Each afternoon, campers are provided an afternoon snack and each week there is a chance to make S’mores.
  • The week ends with “Tie-Dye Friday” for a take-home memory of the week at camp.

Nature Explorers Camp is for children ages 6 (who have completed kindergarten) –12 (by first day of camp session)

Nature Explorers Camp is offered all eleven weeks of our summer camp program. Both AM and PM Extended Care and Drop-In Extended Care is available.

WEEKLY THEMES

Week 1: New World Crafting
Start summer 2017 off by helping to create Greenwell’s first ever Curious Hollow shelters for dragons, fairies, and other magical creatures. Harvest dead, down, and detached sticks to construct camper-sized shelters as well.
Possibilities: games, crafts, recipes, maps, challenges, codes, masks, scavenger hunts

Weeks 2 & 6: Make-A-Mess Science & Art
The title says it all! Roll up your sleeves and get involved in some pretty fun and interesting projects.
Possibilities: Messy recipes, muddy creations, slimy or furry science, forensics fun, and even foot painting

Week 3: Fascinating Greenwell Critters
Learn about herbivores, omnivores, carnivores, and predator/prey relationships through games, stories, and activities. Search for and identify animal signs and tracks. Entice the butterflies or birds to visit with special feeders. Move your bodies like Greenwell animals and construct animal crafts.

Weeks 4 & 8: Curious Hollows
Explore the hollows of Greenwell’s Green Trail. Visit our special secret spot to craft shelters, roads, and furniture for the magical creatures of Curious Hollow. Harvest your very own wand from the forest and earn wand stripes each day for completing challenges like games, treasure map-making, and hunts.

Week 5: Forest Scouts: Wild Turkey Gifts
Awaken your senses through games like “Nutty Squirrels” and other blindfold activities. Learn how to be an honorable scout and sneak gifts to other groups undetected using stealth and camouflage. Try out aidless navigation (lost-proofing) techniques and learn how bird language can help you out during hiding games. Wait, what?
